# Notifications Overview

# Purpose

The ASD20 CommCenter uses a notification system to notify visitors of timely, important information in a more conspicuous way than conventional page text.

Examples include:

  • A weather closure
  • An upcoming event
  • District weather status (normal, delayed or closed)
  • Other relevant, time-limited information

Notifications should be generated only when on the Academy District 20 organization (from the pull-down at the top center.) The Destinations list will be used to indicate where the notificaiton will display (see the Destinations section.)

# Notification Usage

In general, notifications should be used sparingly. Notifications are more likely to be ignored with longer durations and higher usage.

# Banners

  • Used for immediate, timely information
    • Weather Closure or Delay
    • Specific events (e.g. school closure due to water pipe breakage)
    • Crucial community wide information
  • There are three varieties of Alerts:
    • Emergency (these are red and are rarely used – check with district leadership before using)
    • Urgent (these are yellow and are used to illicit an immediate response)
    • Informational (these are blue-ish, and are used to convey an important change)
  • May be assigned to the district website or any school website
  • May not be assigned to a specific page

# Floating Notifications

  • These notifications “float” over the image or header on all pages, hence the name
  • Used to communicate timely information, typically about an upcoming event
  • May be used for an extended period (2 week maximum recommended)
  • May be assigned to the district website or any school website
  • May not be assigned to a specific page

# Page Notice

  • Used to communicate timely information that is relevant to the page’s content
  • May be used for extended time periods
  • May be assigned to specific district or school website pages that have a particular category

# Weather Status

  • Used only on the homepage of district and school websites
  • Communicates one of three statuses:
    • Normal
    • Delayed
    • Closed
  • Weather Status does not automatically update if a Weather Closure Alert is present; status is controlled separately
  • Can be assigned per school
